Goole Parkrun has celebrated its 250th event.
Last Saturday, February 5, saw 138 people take part in the events milestone run, with 19 people recording personal bests. Parkrun, a free event that sees participants run, jog, or walk five kilometres every Saturday morning, started in Goole in May 2015. Now, nearly seven years and a number of adverse weather conditions and national lockdowns later, it is still popular and has a huge turnout every week. Over the 250 events that have taken place in Goole, there have been 30,500 times recorded from over 4,282 different registered Parkrun users, and collectively 152,500 kilometres around West Park clocked up.
Over 1,000 kilometres of these were run by Janet Sowden and Tony Butcher who have done the most Parkruns in Goole. Saturday’s first male finisher was Craig Barker with a time of 17:43, and its first female finisher was Sophie Fox who completed the run in 23:43.
A spokesperson Goole Parkrun said: “Thank you to all previous run directors and event directors for what you have contributed to Goole Parkrun to get us to event 250. We also have amazing volunteers who turn up week in week out. It really cannot happen without you all helping out, the team past and present very much appreciate your help. “Thank you to the team at the park for maintaining West Park to such a high standard and also to our friends at the West Park Community Cafe for opening toilets early and providing great hospitality to us post-event.”
